Project Reveal: Modern, Organic & Timeless Home for a Family of Six
Imagine that peaceful feeling of being greeted by the comfort of your own home after embarking on your family’s latest outdoor adventure. As soon as you step inside, you’re instantly met with familiar, cozy spaces where your family loves to gather, a design aesthetic that reflects your personal tastes and passions, and an organic and authentic vibe that continues to stand the test of time.
Ahhh… there really is no place like home.
The Basking Ridge, NJ project we’re sharing with you today achieves all of this and more. And after countless production delays, we could not be more excited to finally lift the curtain and reveal this stunning home. But first, let’s take a moment to meet this delightful and incredibly patient family…
An Active and Adventurous Family of Six
Two working parents approached us with a clear goal: to update their home’s aesthetic and create an effortless space for their entire family to enjoy. As parents of four young children — yes, four — a functional, beautiful, and easy-to-maintain home was non-negotiable.
To reflect the family’s active lifestyle and love for traveling, we developed a plan for an elevated yet approachable home with casual comfort at its core. This entire first floor renovation included:
Refinishing all existing wood flooring
Undergoing a complete kitchen renovation — yes, the works
Designing a breakfast nook and custom banquette
Brand-new windows for great natural light
Wood paneled ceiling in the family room
Custom built-ins and paneled ceiling in the home office
Complete dining room refresh
Entryway refresh
TWO fully renovated bathrooms
New furnishings and decor, blending modern and classic style
As you can tell, this project was no small undertaking! Along the way, we were met with some serious delays, but we didn’t let that stop us. By creatively problem solving, following our meticulous process, and working around timeline delays, we helped this family achieve their dream home.

Timeless, clean & modernized kitchen
Walking into this brand-new kitchen is like a breath of fresh air! For a family of six, it was absolutely necessary that we maximize storage, seating, and functionality. To do this, we added thoughtful cabinet space, two sinks (four young children…need we say more?), an easy-access beverage fridge, and a spacious island.
Staying true to the organic modern design aesthetic, we combined natural elements like rich, warm woods and organic tiles with a crisp and clean, white backdrop. To make the space feel personal, collected, and meaningful, we layered clay earthenware and textured ceramics on open shelving. Stunning fixtures, aged brass hardware, and an overlay refrigerator brilliantly finish this space and add that elevated aesthetic that this family desired.
Before we move on, let’s take a closer look at the authentic Moroccan zellige tiles. Warm greige tones and a subtle textured finish blend perfectly with the nature view beyond the window, providing a relaxing, earthy, and organic vibe. They also create the perception of depth, making the kitchen feel even more spacious. Doing the dishes doesn’t seem as painful in a space like this, does it?
Cozy breakfast nook, perfect for family gatherings
We try not to choose favorites, but this nook might just be one of my personal faves. Those chairs. Those back details are the stuff of designers’ dreams. We can also imagine lively family meals, accompanied by endless knock-knock jokes and messes galore. Thankfully, we kept all of this in mind while designing this space. The table may be white, but the forgiving and easy-to-clean surface is no match for spaghetti or crayons...in all the best ways.
Texture is my go-to when creating a modern organic aesthetic, and this space is not lacking on that front. We modernized this space with a timeless brass chandelier and created a stunning neutral, textured backdrop with V-groove paneled walls. The custom banquette also adds tons of comfortable seating — the entire family can fit here!
Before, this space felt separate and non-functional from the rest of the home. With our thoughtful redesign, it’s been transformed into a seamless and natural pass-through that transitions perfectly into the next room on our tour...
Comfortable family room with an modern organic vibe
That fireplace! This comfortable living room offers up all the cozy feels. Stunning tongue-and-groove paneling on the ceiling visually enlarges the space and adds the perfect amount of texture. The over-grouted stone fireplace sets the tone for a peaceful retreat, making it an ideal spot for mom and dad to enjoy a well-deserved quiet evening after the kids go to bed.
Meanwhile, neutral, creamy walls provide a clean-lined backdrop for layering art and styling furnishings, and the custom upholstered sofas effortlessly complete the space. They may have taken 12 months (and a few gray hairs) to arrive due to production delays, but it was well worth the wait. They’re positioned perfectly to foster a friendly yet competitive family game night.
Peaceful and collected home office
By now, you know our super power is texture, and this home office is no different. We continued with a paneled ceiling to carry the organic vibe into this space. Combined with abundant natural light, earth-toned custom built-ins, and a neutral textured area rug, this office is soft, fresh, and ready for productivity.
We thoughtfully layered this space with cozy elements used throughout the home to give it a collected and cohesive feeling. For example, the aged brass floor lamp, styled open shelving, and ceramic accents make this separate room feel adjoined with the rest of the home. The result? Collected, organized, and comfortable. Wouldn’t you enjoy working here? Or as an escape from the rest of the home… ;)
The final result was worth the wait…
Despite all the challenges and delays (like this powder bath mirror that endured 3 damaged deliveries and a trip to the glass doctor), our clients were wonderful, understanding clients and trusted our process knowing we would deliver. With our team handling all of the details, they were able to sidestep the overwhelm and genuinely enjoy watching their space come together.
We are thrilled that they now have a timeless and comfortable home for the whole family to enjoy!
